Generator Types We Install

LPG Generators

LPG-powered standby generators are ideal for properties already using LPG for hot water or cooking. The generator connects to your existing LPG supply – no separate diesel storage. LPG burns cleaner than diesel and doesn’t degrade in storage the way diesel can.

Diesel Generators

Diesel generators are robust and widely used for larger backup power requirements. They require a fuel tank on-site. We can install and connect diesel generators and advise on suitable tank sizing for your usage.

Portable vs Standby

Portable generators provide temporary backup power and are started manually. Standby generators are permanently installed and can start automatically when the grid fails. We install permanent standby units – properly connected, safely positioned and wired through a transfer switch.

Generator Sizing

The right generator size depends on what you want to run during an outage. We calculate your load requirements and recommend a suitable kVA rating – not too small that it can’t cope, not oversized and wasting fuel.

Who Needs a Backup Generator on the Gold Coast?

Power outages on the Gold Coast — particularly in hinterland areas like Tamborine Mountain, Canungra, Beaudesert and the Scenic Rim — can last hours or days after a storm. A properly installed backup generator keeps your lights, appliances and hot water running when the grid goes down.

  • Hinterland homeowners in storm-prone areas like Tamborine Mountain, Canungra and Beechmont
  • Properties with medical equipment or other critical electrical needs
  • Rural homeowners on acreage who lose power regularly
  • Homeowners who already have LPG and want to use it to power a backup generator
  • Anyone who has experienced a long outage and doesn’t want to go through it again

What Happens on Installation

We position the generator at a safe distance from the building with adequate ventilation, connect the fuel supply, install a transfer switch to protect against backfeed to the grid, make all electrical connections and commission the unit. We test automatic changeover if your system has it, and run a load test to confirm everything is working correctly.

Storm Season - Don't Wait Until the Lights Go Out.

The Gold Coast storm season runs from roughly October to April. If you’re in a hinterland or rural area and you’ve thought about getting a backup generator, now is the time to sort it out – not during a cyclone warning. We can usually get a site assessment done within a week and have most installations complete within a fortnight.

Safe and Compliant Generator Installation

Licensing

Generator installation involves both gas work (for LPG units) and electrical work. In Queensland, both are licensed trades. We hold a QBCC licence 15273578 as a licensed gas fitter for all gas connections and LPG generator installations.

Transfer Switch

A correctly installed transfer switch is essential for safety. Without one, a generator can backfeed power onto the grid while utility workers think the line is dead. We don’t connect generators without appropriate isolation – this is non-negotiable.

Placement and Ventilation

Generators must be positioned with adequate clearance from buildings and ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide buildup. We follow manufacturer specifications and Queensland regulations for placement.

What Is a Home Backup Generator?

A home backup generator is a permanently installed power source that activates when your mains power supply fails. Unlike a portable generator, a standby unit is wired directly into your home’s electrical system through a transfer switch, which automatically isolates your home from the grid before starting the generator. This means no manual startup, no running extension leads through the house and no risk of backfeed. For hinterland and rural properties on the Gold Coast, a properly installed standby generator provides peace of mind during storm season and extended outages.

Generator Servicing and Maintenance

Servicing

Generators need regular servicing to ensure they’ll start when you need them. We recommend an annual service including oil and filter change, spark plug check, load test and battery inspection. A generator that hasn’t been run or serviced can fail at exactly the wrong moment.

LPG Connection

For LPG generators, we’re uniquely placed to handle both the generator installation and your ongoing LPG delivery. You can book both through No Hassle Homes – one tradesperson, one call.

Payment

We accept payment by card, bank transfer or cash as well as buy now pay later options. No hidden fees – the price you’re quoted is what you pay.
